CBHC/Chapple Design on Coffee: Menotti’s Coffee Stop

Chapple Design helps Louie and Netty Ryan design Menotti’s Coffee Stop from scratch.
From gutted storage space to hot little coffee house, this bright and cozy Venice Beach venue serves up Four Barrel Coffee along with vintage vinyl beats. The concept follows restoration of iconic and long lost “Menotti’s Bar/Buffet” logo, once painted on the side of the Townhouse building. Local folklore indicates Caesar Menotti ran one of the West Coast’s most prolific speakeasy tunnels through the downstairs portion of the prohibition era “Menotti’s Buffet”. The new Menotti’s Coffee Stop pays homage to the landmark location and you can even cozy up to the bar made from vintage ceiling tiles found onsite. If those tiles could talk……

Introducing the Angel City Brewery tap handle, soon to be tapping beer towers throughout Southern California.

Dave Chapple: We wanted the beer tap to be unlike any you’ve ever seen, like a classic Packard/Delahaye/Lalique hood ornament. Inspired by the Art Deco period design of the 20’s and 30’s, and woven into the company’s overarching theme, this crown jewel is the flagship ambassador for the newly renovated brewery in the burgeoning Arts District of downtown Los Angeles.
Visit Angel City Brewery to see them first hand.

Screen print designs for 2013

Every year we try and fire up the press just in time for the holidays. This year we each took turns at the helm and produced 3 different designs.

Nathalie has always been inspired by the montra that Dave’s x-boss (Love with Arthur Lee) used to chant both on and off-stage, “Love on earth must be”. She finds ways to secretly incorporate that saying into her designs. This year it was a hand drawn organic lettering style produced on scarves and Tshirts.

Stella is enjoying seeing her creations come to life as well. This year she got to express her fascination with robots and developed the “very indie” Le Robot Carré design.

Dave, while dreaming of 1968 Meyers Manx dune buggies incorporated 2 of his favorite personalities into yet another design.

The Virgil sign lights up Silverlake

The Virgil neon signThe Virgil is a specialty craft cocktail bar on the edge of Silver Lake. Chapple Design created this custom neon sign to appear as though it has survived the streets of Havana. Relic’d with age so as to blend into the surrounding façade, this sign beams at the corner of Virgil and Santa Monica in Los Angeles.
